March 4, 2006

Greetings and Happy March,

What ever happened to February???  I know it was a short month but not so short that I should have missed a
newsletter.  Please forgive me.  So much is happening with "The Now" that I just didn't get a newsletter together.
But I am here "Now" and that is what truly matters. Right?

In just a few days I will be posting a new painting that doesn't even have a name yet...let me tell you what I know
about it so far.  It's on a nice 36 x 24 2 inch creative edge in oil.  The 4 inch edge of the painting is similar to what
you see on Angelwings and Heaven's Light.  But this painting only has one interior section and that is done in the
open style.  It began with a free form black line that evolved into what appears to be a kind of Native American
tribal design.  I followed my intuition to carry out on through the all ready painted 4 inch edge.  As soon as it is
finished and photographed I will post it.  Please watch for it's release and make sure to e-mail me your thoughts.

                                                                          The Now

So here comes Spring and I hope you are ready to come out and have some fun with "The Now" at all our gigs.
Things are really rocking for us as our original song list explodes past our wildest imaginings.  As many of you
know we thought we were going to be hard pressed to come up with enough to begin recording but what has
happened is just the opposite.  Instead the new lyrics are bursting our computer chops and we are having to
schedule extra rehearsal time for writing the music.  Theres a story being told in each set of lyrics and an even
larger one in the series or cycle of lyrics.  Lewis and I are doing the internal work that requires us both to stay
open and pure for this phenomenon.  We both know it is coming from someplace beyond our understanding.

I don't know if you all understand this...I'm not sure I understand what "this" is....but I do know that our songs are
touching others.  Our fans have told us that most of the time when a band plays their originals it's not the favorite
part of the performance.  But for our listeners, they are enjoying and connecting more with our originals than the
cover set we now do basically as our warm up set.  I think this is pretty much unheard of.  So we are always
energized by our audiences responses to these tunes that have so much to say.

Last weekend we introduced two new songs...which I will write more about (
and have included a sampling of lyrics)
below...but something took off with a couple of other tunes as well.  It was a big weekend for us and one that was
quite a turning point for what seems to be more work/play ahead.  The following experience is a story that must be
told...but more importantly it is about a song...that must be heard and experienced.

The Nautilus Trail

One day last month (when I had that horrible sinus cold) Lewis shot me this set of lyrics through cyberspace. They
touched me so deeply that I couldn't stop crying (not a pretty sight with a sinus cold) so I had to stop reading
instead.  I thought this was going to be a very tough piece to write music for since the lyrics were so tender.  I set
them aside until I felt the time was right.  Then the other night I decided to start working on
Alone and it just wasn't
coming together.
The Nautilus Trail kept surfacing even though I kept pushing the page to the back of the stack.
After awhile, I decided to look at it... I read it...let the tears well up...and literally within minutes...the music began
writing itself.  The music gently wrapped itself around the lyrics as I surrendered.  I was stunned at what was
happening.   As a rule I typically won't write music for Lewis' lyrics without him being present.  I like for him to tell
me what he would like the music to sound like.  So the next evening while we were rehearsing he said..."Let's hear
Nautilus." And for the very first time, ears other than mine heard it.  The room was so very still and when the song
was over...Lewis fell back against the wall and said..."Holy Shit!"  The others in the room were profoundly touched
and after the room returned to focus...someone said...Let's play it again.  But as Lewis corrected...we don't play
this song...it plays us.

I will follow the trail of the nautilus shell,
I will walk the gray maze of your fears.
I will light a white candle to shatter the spell
That’s followed you all down the years

Alone

Alone is a piece that seems to be evolving into something really wonderful as well.  After the experience with The
Nautilus Trail
I just didn't feel like Alone was coming together yet with each performance it has carved a
wonderful place for itself.  It's a song that takes a really close look at the solo journey.

The evening brings the worse attacks
Of waves increasing with crashing rhymes

Alone. Alone. I’m not the rock.
Be still. Breathe and always know
The space between us stretched oh so taut
Does cast an effervescent glow.

Other new tunes that seems to be carving strong pathways to our listeners hearts are...

What Do You Really Want? (Lyric by Lewis....A question)

Head covered with a royal hat
And braced against the cold
You march out, still not knowing that
The streets of hell are sold
To those that give the middle bid
And say the new’s now old –
What were you ever told?

I Want to Know (Written by Angie....An Answer...passing in the cyber sea)

I want to know you won’t leave me, no matter what
Not for others or money or shame
I want to know that when this sojourn ceases
It will be your voice that calls out my name

Flight (Lyrics by Lewis)

This song is like a rocket that sends our listeners into a whole new dimension of possibilities.  We are excited
about adding a wonderful electric guitar to this piece played by Mark Gary.

I don’t want to go back down to where I came from;
I don’t care if I don’t know what new road I’m on.
It’s always been like this, I’ve said that before,
You settle for less or you stand up for more.

We take off in flight, we welcome the fire
We’d rather be ashes, than not to aspire.
  Impossible visions, foolish desire
Is better than what most of this world admires.
