Angeline Damigos’ Contemporary Abstracts present a strong statement reaching deep into your soul, bringing out a positive expression of energy and light. Her unique style has emerged through years of meditation thru her music and then translated to canvas. Her songs are as original as her artwork but with a strong leaning toward folk legends and dreams of a life long ago forgotten.
Angeline began her musical career as early as 5 years old just singing in her backyard. She recalls a pivotal moment in her life when her 4th grade teacher Mrs. Hutchinson called Angeline up to her desk one day and remarked about how much she liked to sing! "Yes, I do!" Angeline replied at 10 years old.
From that moment on Angeline was in every choral group she could find. Then in 1985 (after giving birth to her two amazing sons...see bio page) Angeline was granted a scholarship to realize a life long dream of obtaining a college education. She began her musical studies while touring in various performing groups all through California from 1985- 1993. Angeline's favorite genre while studying voice was Renaissance Madrigals, Folk Ballads and Operatic Arias.
Angeline's first instrumental study was the cello when she was just 9 years old, then she continued on with piano and later guitar.
With a much stronger passion for Blues and Folk (influenced and inspired by such artists as Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Seals and Crofts and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young) Angeline began writing ballads at the early age of 13. "Dream Again" is one such tune (written in 1977) and is currently the last song in her well loved A capella Medley. "My Father" was written in 1976 and "Song for My Mother" was written in 1993.
The final study for her Music degree in Vocal Performance (1993) was French composer Maurice Ravel's Five Greek Folk Songs. Being Greek, of course, Angeline insisted on studying and performing this work in it's original language.
From 1986-2005 Angeline performed in various rock and jazz groups such as Nexxus and Blue. Then in October of 2005 she finally returned to the style near to her heart, in a Folk/Artsong combo The Now. It was there that the songwriting wildfire began and in April 2006 she stepped out as a solo artist with a list of originals (lyrics/music) such as "Eyes To Me...Here"," I Want To Know", and most recently, "Exposed" and "Song of the Lioness/There Are No Mistakes" that are among the favorites of her many friends and fans.
Playing gigs on California's Central Coast is a dream come true for Angeline. Being and singing where her heart has always felt so complete is like "...standing in the center of my very own vibrational alignment."
The completion of any work of art is when the artist experiences the reflection of how her work influences and inspires others...and it is because of a most Loving Power and all of you that all this has been possible... So come out and bathe in the wash with Angeline....." Eyes to me...Here!"
